Prayers for our Bishops and the Spring General Assembly

As the bishops of the United States gather for the Spring General Assembly, we pray that they be shepherds with the heart and mind of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.

Scripture
“I have found my servant David,
and with my holy oil anointed him.
My hand shall always be with him,
and my arm shall make him strong...” Psalm 89.

“How good and how pleasant it is,
when brothers live in unity ...” Psalm 133.

Collect
O God,
Eternal Shepherd of the faithful,
Who tend Your Church in countless ways and
rule over Her in love, grant, we pray,
that our bishops, Your servants,
whom You have set over Your people,
may preside in the place of Christ
over the flock whose shepherd He is, and
be faithful as a teacher of doctrine,
a Priest of sacred worship and
as one who serves them by governing.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
Who lives and reigns with You
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

... and prayer for Spring General Assembly:

O Lord, Ruler and Guardian of Your Church,
pour out, we pray, upon Your servants
a spirit of truth, understanding and peace,
that they may strive with all their heart
to know what is pleasing to You and
then pursue it with all their strength.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your son,
Who lives and reigns with You
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
